Gambling

We gamble legally through the state lottery from scratch offs to mega millions. Video terminals run Keno and Horse Racing - yet we argue over slots. After six years from the idea being introduced, we finally act on it. One can assume politics played a role with a Republican Governor and a Democratic controlled legislature; yet we still wait even after a referendum for slots was approved.

Are slots the panacea for our budget woes? No, but if our voters want them and the state can benefit and maintain a lower tax rate for our citizens then by all means lets go already.

Video poker machines are constantly ignored as a form of gambling. People gamble using these devices, so why not have the state control it? It’s already required that they be permitted for entertainment purposes. The remote portions of our state already allow this type of gambling.

I am not one for increasing taxes, but here we have an untouched resource and the state voice is already welcoming the idea of gambling.

If the state can control this increase in the general fund, gambling would be welcome and the facilities would be able to operate with an increase in security knowing they wouldn’t be raided. Usually who wins the community who is supported by these institutions with food drives and scholarships, etc.
